“I’m a heavy-duty field mechanic working for Finning Canada based out of Regina, Saskatchewan. On Sunday at 7:20 pm, I hit a moose on the highway with my service truck, going approximately 100km/h. Both driver and passenger airbags were set off in my truck.
Thankfully, our service trucks are equipped with HERD bumpers. Due to having this bumper on my truck, I came out injury free and the truck still ran and drove with the only leak being washer fluid.
If this didn’t have the bumper, I’m scared to know what the outcome would have been. Whether the chassis is a write off is to be determined by insurance, but myself, and many others are very thankful that I was able to come out of this accident injury-free. While unloading the truck, I had a lot of time to reflect and think about how this could’ve ended differently. I wanted to take the time to thank you guys for building a good product that holds up when facing the worst situations.
I will attach photos, but we figure the moose was roughly 1,000lbs and was hit with such force it was sent flying across the highway into the opposite ditch halfway to the field.”
